How to get a race car in GT5

Having struggled a lot to get gold on the gran turismo event on expert and wanting a proper race car, i thought it would be good to make life easier on other players.

This info relates to the A-spec events.

So, you want to get the gold awards on the Gran Turismo Expert event AND you want a proper race car...?

Here is what you do. First off all, become level 21 and save up to about 700.000 credits. Now you are set.
Go to the dealer and get yourself a Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1.

First thing you do is add race modifications (boom, that's over 300K credits gone!). Then, get all other available parts in the tune shop. Tune the car as you see fit but in anycase, do this:
  • maximize the transmission (it's all about max speed, not so much acceleration)
  • maximize down force (body wing setting slider to the maximum)
  • set all breaking power to the front wheels and none (i repeat none) to the rear
  • get the soft race tyres
I personally set the ABS to 0 or 1 (no need to break much) and the traction control to about 5 or 6.

Now go to the second event on extreme (like the wind) and work very hard to finish this race in gold. The trick is, try to smash your way to place 3 or 4 by the first corner and then be patient and overtake the rest at the end of the long straights doing a late brake. After collecting this gold, turn your attention to the indy oval (second race) and go for it. In pure speed you are a bit slower but they tend to brake for every corner (it's an oval but hey, that's the AI for ya) so take this opportunity to build up a lead. Just release the accelerator for about half a second just before the corner starts and you should be fine ramming it down to the floor again and make it through). If they catch you up on the straight (and they will) just block them and as a bonus they will give you a slight bump making you go faster. Any opponent that does get past, ignore them since you will get them at the turn.
Pocketing this gold medal will result in the gift of a proper race car (the minolta toyota). Crank this puppy up to over 1000 BHP (or PK or PS depending on what country you are from), do some settings on the camber and downforce and you will win all 5 races on the Gran turismo expert event no worries.

This is a proper race car. I always test the pure speed on a time trial on the High Speed Ring Reverse.
Here are some lap times that i manage to set without much of a problem:
  • Lamborghini Gallardo fully tuned: 1:10
  • Audi R8 fully tuned: 1:01
  • Corvette ZR-1 race modified and fully tuned: 0:53
  • Minolta Toyota race car fully tuned: 0:50
Hope this helps.....
